Upgrading
Before upgrading, please note: If you own a computer that is still under warranty, you will void the warranty if you remove the side panel and it breaks the warranty sticker.Caution: Always be sure to disconnect the power cord from the wall or power strip so there's no chance of being shocked.
There are roughly seven things that you can upgrade in your computer: the processor, memory, hard drive, sound card, video card, CD-ROM and the operating system. If you have a newer computer system, however, you may not need to upgrade anything.
Before you buy any piece of computer hardware, check the system requirements on the side of the box. Make sure your computer is compatible by matching your computer specifications up. Remember to write down your computer's specifications, like the processor size or how much memory your computer has.
If you are upgrading a hard drive, memory or the processor you will have to make sure that the main board will support the upgrade. More information on this can be found in the Tips and Tricks section of this website.
With video cards there are
two types: pci and agp so you'll want to make sure you get the right
type. Now if you have an agp video card you can still buy a pci video
card but you'll have to make sure you have an available pci slot on
your main board.
